Another 3 on the board today and one for tomorrow. #76 today with those 3. Just got finished doing my mentors fur as he has been in hospital since Jan 2nd. His days of running the line has come to an end. 80 years old and no longer can walk. He had quite a bit of fur in freezer from years past plus what he collected this year. I had to run back in January and try and find all his traps which I think we got them all.So that is all taken care of and will ship to Nafa in 14 days. I have some more marten and fisher to send as well.
But for now I'm concentrating on the remaining beaver the boys have. Thinking another 16 maybe more to go not sure.

wolf- How does this "mandatory" beaver take on your registered line work up there? The provincial government (?) makes a deal with you that you can exclusive rights on the public land on this line but you have to take x number of beaver off of it this year, right? Do you get any bounty per beav or just what you can sell them for on the open market? Are you required to take a certain number of any other critters? Thanks!

:) The provincial government makes no deal with me on beaver. The Ministry of Natural resources under the Provincial government has a set plan on number of beaver harvested as well with a few other species. As per beaver the ratio is 1.5 beaver per house. Since all beaver houses are not the same size I can harvest a few more on the larger houses and bypass the small ones. The point of this is to make sure that the beaver is not over harvested. I am required to take up to 75% each year of the quota. So even in low price years for beaver i still have to catch my percentage of beaver. Playing it smart when to start trapping beaver has always given me a much larger margin in over all averages on beaver. This year was $10.00 0ver average. We have no bounty on beaver.
On lynx we have a quota and fisher as well but the rest is wide open. I have been over quota many times on lynx and fisher but put it to accidental catch and can still keep and sell to market. So since no one sets for fisher here as we never know where they will be from year to year the marten boxes are the perfect solution to catching fisher in 120's. When your quota is filled the next one you catch in a marten box is classified as accidental catch, you just have to report it. Lynx is another where i will catch many in fox snares above quota but still get to keep because of accidental catch. Things are still pretty liberal minded for our trapping regs so far on Registered trap lines in the province.

Thanks Chief.
3 more on board today and have 4 left, tomorrow will finish. That makes 12 on boards as of today plus the 4 for tomorrow That makes 91 for this year. Unless we go for spring beaver. Big if on my Nephews part. Anyway hit the wire as we have 6 days left of drying time before pick up.

What is so aggravating to me is that Wolf makes fleshing and boarding a beaver look so simple and easy. I believe he could do a better job blind folded than I could at my best! Very amazing. Great job you've done again this year Wolf.

No peace keeper its a birch tree I cut to size then peeled and let dry for a year then put it on a peace of pipe and welded to a floor plate. Birch is a hardwood and i know i have done many hundreds of beaver over that beam. Thanks but you know i went through my freezer the other day and found 4 more :--o . They wont hit market this year.
Thanks for the comment swamp , but do enough and you will get better. Now you and your coon , you would make it look so easy where i would have a hard time.

I don't see a lot of people waiting at the NAFA truck Wolf. There is a NAFA pick-up point 8 miles from my house, there was a big line waiting for him 5 years ago. Last year, I was the only one there.

I expect the same this year, he's coming next Saturday.

Rick he got in early and pick up was not till 5pm. He spends the night in Dryden and heads west in morning. Soon as people get off work he will be busy. I was there at 4. Next year the fur pick up will be back at my place along with FHA. No more running to meet the truck again.

Yes Amak. I took over the FHA from my mentor as he is no longer able to do it and with people dropping fur bags off here for Nafa the last couple of years for me to drop off, I decided to do it again. It is very convenient for many trappers to drop fur bags off a head of time. So here I am again doing Nafa.
