Arkansas river activity
Today i went to bents fort which is about a mile and a half east of me. There is a very nice nature hiking trail that skirts the marshland and borders the Arkansas river.
I noted some activity along the bank.
While trapping on the lower musselshell and some of its smaller tribuataries it was very rare to see muskrat. While i snared many beaver...never once did i bag a muskrat.
I suspect this activity is of the muskrat. I noted no smell of beaver. Noticed no slides coming up the river bank to reach willow. Noticed no webbing in the tracks. Noticed no damage to surrounding flora. Noticed no mudmounds....noticed no food caches. Noticed no. Trail channels in the river.bottom. noticed no dens along the river bank.
The trail of the critter was mosrly close to shore and the trail in the mud was very narrow..unlike the beaver who drags a wide trail and makes wide muddy slides down the bank.
So i deduce these are tracks of a muskrat.
BINGO??
