Post subject:  My hog traps have become deer feeders!

Feral hogs are destroying my pasture. I have round "saloon door" hog traps which worked well until the deer found them. Now, the deer walk in eating all the corn and jump out leaving the trap triggered with no bait left for the hogs. Out behind my house now, it isn't uncommon to count over 20 deer hanging out overnight after looking at the "feeders".

What can I do to bait feral hogs and not attract the deer? Between the deer and cattle, my shots on hogs have become extremely limited and, I have apparently already killed all the dumb ones. I am open to other suggestions but, they must be safe around cattle.

TIA,
Sid

Put a hinged 2X4 in place to hold the saloon door gates open, from this run a heavy cord about 5'-6' off the ground to a 5 gal bucket that is sitting upright on top of another 5 gal bucket that is upside down. The deer will come and browse then leave, the hogs will root over the 5 gal bucket with the corn inside, thus when the bucket falls it pulls the 2X4 from between the gates letting them close.

Thanks! I will give that a try over the weekend.
