Met the NAFA agent this afternoon for the first time this year. Latest pickup I can recall. There were only four other guys there and myself. Smallest turnout I have ever seen. And then the agent opened the back and it was practically empty. He said he made five earlier stops and the turnout was pitiful. I'm guessing the dismal price predictions have really sent the trappers into other endeavors this year. Maybe the low wild fur inventories will create more of a demand.....we shall see.

Sounds about right WCS, I just realized this morning that our NAFA pickup is tomorrow morning and it is about 90 miles north of me. So I got my cat tags and loaded a few hides up and plan to be there for the truck.

Our NAFA guy had made 3 trips through my area the last few years. This year, he is only scheduled for a pick up here at the end of March. Unless I can get out for a coyote or two or maybe go after some of the beaver that just moved into the area lately, he won't see anything from me this year.

The South Dakota NAFA agent is doing 2 runs this year, last weekend and early April. For 2014/2015, they did 3, one in December as well as the typical ones. Never much in the truck when I stop because we're the first stop and there's a lot of metro developed land around here that can't/won't be trapped. Some guys come over from sw MN and nw IA.

How close to you guys do these "trucks" come? Do you have designated drop off points?

Yes TT, they have designated pick up points. Greg Kohl is the southern PA NAFA rep and is actually located about 180 mile east of me but has a pick up place about 10 miles south of me.

Our agent is Ernie Mosher. I believe he lives about 100 miles north of me. He picks up fur throughout NYS for NAFA. My pickup is only 10 miles away also.

I wish I had his job. I would love to travel and speak with trappers from all around and prep the fur for auction. I don't know what his salary is but it seems to be a fun job.

The nice guy who picks up my fur is Joe Edminster (I think it is anyway). I drive 13 miles to drop off. Looks like we lost a few trappers in my area. I just dropped of my fur tonight....we usually have about 12 to 15 trappers waiting. Tonight there was only 3 others that showed up. The back of the trailer didn't look very full at all. Less fur being shipped is a good thing, right?

Yesterday I drove to Marshall TX from home to meet the NAFA pickup Agent and it ended up being just over 100 miles. Myself and one other trapper were the only "trappers" who brought anything. The other trapper had a good deal of fur (3 bags) but I only had a few hides. Two other fellows were there, Greg Novak, a fur buyer from Corpus Christi TX, 425 miles from Marshall TX. He had a U-Haul trailer loaded with bags of hides. Also in attendance was Jeff Dunnier who is a commercial trapper working out of Marshall TX. He was there to pickup some otter hides from the NAFA Agent, Sterlen Krishman.
