Great time to trap is right before a weather front moves in. Hadn't snared anything for weeks, and the night before the snow started caught this nice red fox.

That is a very pretty red fox doc. Our reds are more pale/tawny colored.

What size snare wire on a beaut like that?

seriously beefy reddie. Nice to see some with shoulders. Somebody was whining on tman that no one should be taking any more reddies because they're breeding and the fur had gone done hill and worth only an Abe or so. Maybe so in his area, although he was out of MN, and maybe so in other areas as well. But it might not be true everywhere. Yours certainly looks nice. If nothing else self tan it and sell it as a wall-hanger. Worth a lot more than $6...

Thanks everyone.

Trap, I use 3/32 cable for my snares. I make my own.

NonPC, she was furred up better than the ones I catch in Nov. and Dec. Funny thing was , there was not one flea on her. They usually are loaded with fleas. I do plan to tan the hide and sell it.

I'm in MN and our fox still look perfect!!!! I snared one on Sunday and it was beautiful. I'm only a few years into trapping so i'm no expert but I don't see a reason to not trap them. Beautiful critter Doc! :D

Me either trap, and she wasn't even stiff yet. If she had been frozen I might have thought they had jumped off, but she wasn't.

I've had full grown men run for a shower and new clothes after I had them hold the tail ouuta my way.
It's like it oiled itself at a cattle oiler that also has debugger in it.
