I caught a nice red yesterday and this morning while I was scouting I found another red fox and several great places to hang snares for him. My question is, should I give it a shot or should I let him be? We have very few fox around as far as I know so i would like to leave a few for seed but I'm itchin to try and snare another one. Would it be smarter to give this one a pass? I don't want to destroy the population any more than the yotes already have. I'm kinda torn on this one. Thanks guys.

I went back out and found a few more sets of fox tracks. Now granted they were in the same area so it could be the same fox but I'm still hesitant. My dad is telling me to hang the traps up for the year and leave them alone but I've got 8 days of season left for most of the critters including fox and a few months for yotes so I'm kinda itchin to set some snares.

You cant farm fox as many wild animals. There is no guarantee by leaving it, that it will be there for next year. Yotes also don't farm fox. Your call.

Predators are constantly dispersing to find new areas, catch one and another moves in. I never worry about over-trapping an area, mostly cause I ain't good enough to catch them all.

That all I need to hear than. Fox snares are goin back out tomorrow. I found where he ducked under some logs and slithered through some tight brush so if he comes back through he should get a new collar. ;--)

I agree...try as you might, you cant hurt the population, because you dont cover wide enough of an area to become detrimental to the population. Take one out, another will find its way back soon from out lying areas. Its called a renewable resource. Wide spread dessimation would have to take place to knock back population. You as a trapper, cant get it done on your own. Trap all you like, they will make more.....
