Headed north to Trapper Creek area to set a few traps to check over the next few weeks. Going to set for marten, beaver, coyote and fox first, then will add some sets for Lynx Dec 15th. That does seem to be pretty normal these days. I guess I am lazy, but I never know whether to refer to my son's lady friend as my daughter in law or his girlfriend. They have been together for years, so I usually say DIL.

So this last weekend for setting traps was a flop. We ended up getting too late of a start to drive to where we were going to set, so we made a secondary plan to head south instead of north. We drove in to the closest thing to a hurricane alaska gets, could hardly stay on the road couldn't see to drive. So we turned around and came home. So maybe we will have some sets out next week... Where we originally planned to set has about 4 ft of snow on the ground... as of now should be interesting snow shoeing and setting, not going to lie I am not a fan of setting in the snow would much rather have frozen bare ground at least for footholds.

I had no luck when I tried running beaver pole snares. I always found the snares collapsed and sometimes sticks in them. I did catch beavers climbing up out of the ice hole to get at some birch on top of the hole that I used to cover it up. I set a 330 in the ice hole so when the beavers tried to come up out of the ice to get the birch above they would trip the 330.

So we caught an ermin and a small red fox this last week. But my computer is being very finicky so i am not going to push my luck trying to post pictures right now. We are having problems with TONS of moles, voles, and shrews eating all our bait right now.... But going to remake a bunch of sets next trip. We have 3 otter slides that showed up, and still lots of fox and coyote tracks. Would take any suggestions from you all about coyote sets!! I am on a main river at the confluence with a smaller stream. We currently have a bait pile set with 2 snares guarding 2 separate ways into the bait. Will try to take some pictures next trip. I want to get a (snow hole) set and a pee post for coyote because i know they travel this waterway its just a matter of when. I am also going with a friend this week to help him on his line. He has a snow machine so we are going to get about 50 miles off the road system to where he has his traps. He has been slaying the beaver and ermin but has had no luck with anything else as of now. He does have some lynx coyote fox and coyote sign in his area just no connections.

i used to step off my snowshoes and step into the snow to make my bait hole. make a shelf for the trap, wire it off to a tree and throw a can of sardines into the hole. i tried to snare rabbits but made my loops too big,but the fox fit just fine!
