Went to set some hog snares and my hog trap today and took along my caller. These two bad characters thought bunny was on the menu. First critters I've shot with some handloads for my 22-250, used 36 gr. Barnes varmint grenade bullets at 3,830 fps. did the job nicely.

Good deal Saratoga! Was that around here? The large one looked pretty good.

It was up in cherokee county close to Alto. They both had mange, the small female didnt have any belly hair at all and two places on her rear, the male had some small mange patches on his belly. I laid them out to take picture so they would look a little better than they were.

Wow, that's a light bullet!! I wonder at what speed that 36 grainer would start breaking up in flight??

P.S. I would have chopped of the head of at least the male. That whole skull or the lower jaw and upper big teeth might have brought some coin on ebay...

I'm not sure at what speed it would break up, it's not made of lead, but chances are I wont find out. Thats a browning micro-hunter and its so lightweight I would be scared to put any more powder in the cases. They were about 100 yds out, both droppped immediately. hit the female high and it made kind of a mess, hit the big male perfect in shoulder, little bitty hole going in, no exit wound. dead before it hit the ground.

I'd hate to see the ballistic gelatin explosion in slow-motion seeing what it does inside of a yote. Must be like a grenade going off. Then again, as you said, it was probably dead when it hit the ground so probably actually fairly humane.

The mange always is disappointing. I didn't catch any this season with mange but did catch a couple that was patchy on the fur.

Hey neighbor! I trap and hunt in Sabine County, at Six Mile Hunting Club. You ever go that way?
