Weather has finally broke from winters grip. Hoping to have some open water to make a last run at some spring beaver. Anyone else still at it or have you hung your traps up until next season?

Waiting patiently for break up here. I wait all year for spring rats and I am afraid this year will be to late. April 7 season closes and there is still over 18 inches on most ponds and swamps. We shall see. Hoping for at least a week of some open water.

Ice is almost gone here. Most of put spots are thawed out. Had to rearrange sets but still running baited sets for racer but not having a lot of luck. Otter season is open too but we dont want any this late. Not catching much. I love chasing chisel tooths just not very good at it. Weather guessers are saying near 70 degrees in the next week so this will probably be our last week. We mainly trap for the castor and meat. Water getting that warm wont hold the meat and our castor take has been rather dismal. Chasing $2 beaver burning $10 in gas a day seems rather silly too. But it was fun. Wish we had a spring rat season. If the weather holds we 'll be running trotlines and bank poles by April 1st. Cold water flatheads are some of the best eating :-).

One thing on my 8th-grader's bucket list is a "big catfish" this year. We have flats around here but more limited than channels. People tend to catch bigger flats but basically have to sit in and fish snags from what I hear. Maybe my man Stinkbait will help this year!!

PC flats love live bait.. Snags thru the day, fishing between snags and shallows at night. If setlines are legal they work good too.
