Yesterday afternoon I was taking a shower and just finished. I hear the dogs going crazy and the chickens making a ton of chatter. I look outside from my bathroom window and see a fox digging like crazy trying to get into my chickens run. He was giving his best effort to dig through the two + feet of packed hard snow to get him some wings. I throw some drawers on and run down to the basement and grab the 22. I proceed back upstairs and slowly get onto my porch. I forgot the wind was blowing 30 and it was 10 degrees outside. Im still dripping with water outside now. The fox saw me as I pulled the trigger. He dropped right where he was standing. Such a shame he was so ill. I really have no idea how he made it this long with the winter we are having. Just goes to show how tough these critters are.

I made a quick fire in the pit and burned that sorry chicken grabber.

Ps....he stunk worse than any coyote I have ever gotten

Great story!! How many icles were hanging off of various body parts?? I would have caped out the chest & head for a taxidermy mount. They look beautiful. I don't think the mange critters would last too long in a tanning solution...

That was a beautiful fox. To bad for the mange. Maybe next time you can enjoy your shower with out interruptions from the chicken thief.

Maybe the fox just wanted in to "warm up" with the chickens in the henhouse. It doesn't sound like you or the fox had enough on to keep you warm. Good shooting.

That's a shame about the mange on that fox. But, you did save the chickens! Way to go WCS.

I know it was. We have some really nice colored reds here inthe hudson valley. I would not say an abundance of them but enough to make the effort for sure. Most of my reds are dk or extra dk.
