thanks to a few ppl thinking for me I decided these will be perfect for rats. Wade, you were right! 5/8" fiberglass pole with a clip that slides on the pole by pinching the clip together. then just slide on a trap! I am going to put two traps on each one. I spoke at length over the phone with the very nice gentleman who sells them and they use them to catch mink, rats, beaver, otter...you get the picture :o he gave me many tips on using them in various conditions. I got 25 poles and 50 clips. I messed around setting them up with long springs and found a good fit also. my thought is that they will be an easy in, easy out with a canoe. should work great for ditches and culverts too.

Those fiberglass poles and clips are very handy. Seeing your pictures reminds me how far behind I am this season. :(

Couple things here Al, did I see a DP in your mess of traps? I like the pole thing but don't quite get it. Do you bait it or just stick it in and leave the trap just under the surface so the rats hop on there to chill for a little bit? Maybe I am missing something here. Either way nice to see the progress you are making!

Happy, there is a dp in there. Got it in a bundle of used stuff. You arent missing a thing. The poles can be baited, they make a special bait clip that slides on above the traps. The traps go under an inch or two of water and the rats climb on. Kristen D from another site uses them without any bait or lure, just places them next to feed beds, huts, etc. The retailer says he just uses a smear of paste rat lure above the traps. I was thinking about using a chunk of bright colored sponge, wet it, slide it down, and add a couple drops of lure. My #1 longs springs fit on the 5" clip really well :D

The pole deal sounds pretty slick! They should drowned out pretty quick too I would think. Do you guys have any coons up your way?

Very nice! I'm waiting until my friend returns from the NTA Convention. He's getting some MB's and DP's for me. Then I'll do the new and old traps altogether.

We have coons up here, not loads of em but they are big.

Rick, I would like to pick up some more traps...we'll see if I can make another purchase "under the radar." Enjoy those mb's!
