Ok, it's time for the next new guy question. Does the Dip last for a whole season of water trapping or is Dyeing a better bet for the water line? I know everyone has there personal opinion, I was wondering which treatment lasts the longest with catches and being under water a lot?

All of my water traps get coated with flat black rustoleum spray paint. It keeps the rust off and paint smell is not an issue since they are under water.

I spray paint my underwater traps as well. Dye the land traps.

Dye and wax all footholds here. If you are going to be catching something that fights hard, like coon in the water, it doesn't pay to use paints or dips in my opinion, they just tear it off either completely or in patches. Then you got to redip or repaint. A lot more money going to be spent as well as much more time. Not worth it to me.

If you are talking bodygrips, that is a different thing. I'd probably paint or dip them. Might even look at full metal jacket ( :--( as much as I don't care for locklear's stuff).

I spray paint every trap both land and water. CMJ is right about coons tearing them up but it is not a big problem if you use drowners. And I don't mind repainting if I have to. Just my personal opinion.

I dye all of mine. Haven't ever waxed any, but I am going to try that this year. I have questions about that myself. As far as dying goes, you can pick up walnuts for free. You want the ones that are black and a juicy mess to touch. We've done that got years, but found that log wood dye is much easier, does just as good of a job, and still fairly reasonable. The only thing I paint is snares, although I am goin to try dipping some this year. I'm hoping it will coat, and last longer on the cable. Best of luck to you.

What questions do you have about waxing? I'm sure we all would be glad to help if we can.

I tried the speed dip last year. Wasn't all that impressed. Didn't cover well, and yes I did prep per instructions, and they rusted up sooner than I would have expected. Going with logwood dye and wax this year.
