Shannon and I went to the lease yesterday and set out 8 MB-650's and 3 Duke Dp's. On are way back to camp we saw a LARGE bobcat run across the road in front of us; I will catch him!! We ran them this morning and Shannon had caught a nice boar coon on peanut butter and marshmallow, and I caught my first ever grey fox. This was one of my goals this year, and I got it on the first night!!! We didn set a single deer, so we are still looking for a set of horns.

Here is my lil trapping buddy with our catch.

LMAO, me either. The 650 was a little large for it, but it worked.

Mark, did you lighten the pan tension on that 650? Love the grey fox

No Sir, that was the first time the trap had been set since waxing and was probably a little light. As you can tell she put all her weight on it just to see if it would go off.........it did!

Stupid Texas weather! In the past 14 days we have averaged 72.6 degree’s for a high with the highest being 82, and 46.9 for a low, with the lowest being 31. Sure makes it hard to get excited about setting out traps and taking quality fur. When is winter going to start????

It's all Swamps fault, everyone knows that texans have no business this far north in the winter. Now he's gone and put in a special request for some warm weather so he can thaw out. LOL  :P

Nice catches!!! Keep'em coming!!!

Shannon & I finally got a chance to go to the lease again yesterday afternoon. We only had time to set out 6 650's 6 snares, and 3 DP's. We heard the coyotes howling most of the night, and 3 different times there were 4 different packs howling at the same time. We were both excited with that much activity going on, we just knew we were going to catch something. We ran the traps this morning, and much to our surprise, and disappointment we did not catch a thing!! We did not even have a trap messed with. :( :(  After we ran the traps we got in the deer stands, and did not even see a single deer!!!!! We checked the camera and had this lil guy on it, so I guess there is still hope.
It looks like we will get to spend a few days there starting on the 28th. Hope it happens.

  Won't be anything in our traps tomorrow, had to pull them this morning. We only got to leave them out overnight.

I went to the deer lease Friday to deer hunt and Shannon said she wanted to go Saturday so I figured I would take some traps and set them out. I hunted that morning and did not see a thing. I got ready to set out my traps and quickly realized I did not bring my pan covers, bait, lure, or urine. I had two old pan covers, and some of my home made bait, so I decided to set out two traps. I set one where I had caught my first gray fox, and when I was setting it out, that little voice in my head said put a 1.5 instead of the 650. I did not listen, and set the 650. Saturday morning I found where a gray fox had worked the set form one end to the other, stepping all over the 650 trap pan, but was not heavy enough to set it off. I wanted to kick my butt for not listening to myself, live and learn I guess. The other set had no activity, but I had put a little bait in an old set just 50 feet away and they dug it out and ate it. Hopefully this will reduce their fear and I can catch them next time I get to set some steel.

This is how I left the set

This is the way I found it.

Just 10 feet from where we had made a set a few weeks ago we found this beauty. I measured my hand from the tip of my finger to the middle of my thumb and its 5.5”. This turd is as big around as a fifty cent piece!!! I have a Lab puppy that weighs 50lbs and he can’t make a turd this big…..that is one big dog that laid this one!! I want him on a stretcher board!!!!

That really is a big turd though! Are you sure Swamp didn't hand roll you one from two coyotes, and slip it in on you? He's ornery that way you know!

Sucks about the grey. I got my 650's so light, a rabbit could set them off. I like a bit of a hair trigger though for cats. Like you, for coyotes I like them heavier. ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR VOICE OF REASON!!!!! :--D

Hey, was your homemade bait the stuff with the tonquin in it?

Ok Swamp, let us see your fingernails! :--o

Jase, how did you get your 650's so light?? I tried and about 3.5# was as light as I could get them.

Yes Sir it was...I like it!! :--D :--D

Well, it’s official, almost. :? If nothing goes wrong, Shannon and I are leaving Friday morning for the deer lease to stay in a tent, with no electricity, or running water, for nine days, trapping, deer hunting, and dove hunting. Neither one of us has ever camped that long, and not sure what we are getting ourselves into. We are both looking forward to the adventure, and will post pictures, and our daily events when we get back.
