i have been reading the things about dying traps.. being that i have only trapped groundhogs and two possums, im not sure what dying traps even is... why do you do it?...do you have to do it? what is is... can someone help me out because im really pumped about trapping this year and want to know as much about it as i can before i start..thanks a lot

Dying traps helps preserve them and knocks the shine off of them. Before you dye them though you need to wash them thourghly to get the factory grease and oil off them. Than hang them to dry and allow a light coat of rust to form. Then they are ready to dye. Afterwards be careful not to contaminate them with any foriegn odors, ecspecially if you are going for fox. coyotes, etc. I would also suggest waxing the traps you plan to use on land. But I would not wax conibears.
