ahhhh my favorite part of trapping season. muskrat season ETA 9 hours and 45 minutesish away. i put the duck gear away for a week and chase little fur with my dad as i do every year. we counted up every 110 we have and all 57 have a hole assigned to them and atleast a dozen if not a dozen and a half #1 longsprings will make it to a house on the feeder slide. our goal has been the same as it was last year at 60 rats in 8 days. we trap from opening day till sunday before Pa rifle season. usually its the only time we dont have ice and even towards the end of the week we are fightin it alittle bit. im even lucky enough to have my loving woman with me for a 12 hour check tomorrow and sunday mornings check. its her first 'line but shes pretty much just along for the ride to relax from work. and if she wants to spend time with me guess shes gonna have to go with me ;--) i got my fleshin beam set up and my skinnin knife sharp. i got these cool glasses with a video camera in them so hopefully i can litterally take yall on some of my line with me.

Good luck Moo! hope you catch a bunch of them. We don't have many rats in my neck of the woods but I did locate a good amount of sign at an old beaver dam site. I might actually get into some rats this year!

were puttin out another dozen and a half 110s and a few more 1s tomorrow. gotta finnish settin the farm ponds. one of the other places we are the only people to have permission to has someone set up in it before we could get to it. and without permission. its the same local idiot that thinks he runs the show and everyone should bow down to him cause hes a "professional".

if you found out what association he was highly active in it would sicken you even more. and its one that supports trapping. i have a few choice words for him when i see him. and for being the upteenth time we have run into problems with this fella and another guy that Pop had trouble with a few years ago im thoroughly fed up with them and their "professionalism". i understand that compitition for land is tight but we have 5 or 6 places to ourselves. leave us be cause we do our best to leave everyone else alone. im gonna start dealin with things my way. besides the newest deputy to the PGC hes checked me a time or 3 duck hunting and after a while when he sees me he just checks on how i did. hes one of the ones that if you do what your supposed to your fine, if you screw up hes gonna hit ya hard. i think i may drop a hint and see how hard he hits him with the book.

5 more rats today and we set more in some good locations. with some luck we should pull another 10 tomorrow. i hope. we went back to the location the other guy moved in on us and i guess he stopped in on opening day before we got there and talked to someone else that we didnt and got permission. so we decided instead of fightin over 3 or 4 rats we would just stop in next season and hope we are the only ones with permission. win some and ya lose some. just somethin about that guy that drives me up a wall. but i guess you play with the cards your delt

10 rats and a minky this morning. for the first time ever i put a on purpose mink set. its where a culver comes out of the dyke with a good bit of water comin through it and it has a pool but it runs into a pond. the spot between the pool and teh pond is real grassy and there was a perfect little stream the size of a 110 through it and only deep as half way up a 110 so i stuck one in there. the day i was settin i found a set of track in the mud within feet of it, after flattening out the tunnel he was using the only spot was through the 110. sure as snuff he was there this morning waitin on me. ill get pics up tonight. i gotta get a move on and get to work.

lol Swamp hes been tinkering with his shootin buddys rifle and building a new one for himself. but as of now his rifle bench in the garage is a fur bench

BigMoo will you guys be putting up all those hides or are you going to sell it green? Glad you picked up a mink! I know very little about muskrats but did have a marsh trapper in the coastal area of Texas tell me that the rawer the weather, the better they move.

i put all the rats and mink up. we sold the coon cause we dont have the freezer space for to many. Pop found a den tree this moring and made 3 sets around it after he got outta work and walkin by our rat sets he found one had the 11th rat of the day. i gotta eat then down to the garage to skin and put fur up. ill get better pics up alittle later but i have one of the mink i took this morning in the dark. on another note the other day i found mink tracks at one of our other rat ponds. he should be due to come back through any day now. i hope not till thursday night when i get a few sets in on the morn
