I wonder, when you are fleashing on a beam do you push or pull the fat off?

I stand with the tip of the beam at my stomach and push. A friend of mine thinks this is backwards. He stands behind the beam and pulls down. Whatever is most comfortable for the user I guess.

Depends on the knife you're using. Most knives are for pushing. But there are some called draw knives that are designed for you to pull the fat towards you. Also, it depends on howyour beam is set up. People with back problems, or older individuals benefit from a vertical beam and using a draw knife, where as younger people can get away with haunching over a fleshing beam and pushing the fat off the hide.

Since my injury, my beam is low to the ground, so I can sit in a chair and push the fat off the hide.
