Did these a while back.
The two with the crude circles are a style I haven't done before. It's called Thumb painting. I rather like it.
These are fun and easy to make. I made this batch in about four days.

These are the moccasins I made a while back too. They are Commanche/ Southern Plains style. They are tied mid thigh or at below the knee, depending on if one is on horse back or not. I tanned the mule deer for the tops of them and already has some brain tanned elk that I was gifted a while back.
I was going for pre-1840 style of mocs and dress but am probably more into the pre-1850 era. Need to get a photo of the dress. For any dress fans out there !!!!

I've been making these for years. I choose two different fabrics that suit a person's likes, and make a little blanket. Put quilt stuffing between and tie it. Bind with blanket binding. 2yds by 45" or so.
I realize this isn't a quilting club site, but someone might enjoy seeing them.. Ebay has amazing fabric selections.

MSG, I too have made the jaw bone clubs for wall hangers. But you are most outstanding with your leather works. What do you get for a pair of high top mocs? I MUST learn to tan as good as you!

Those look great MSG. Ive dabbled in leather making etc but nowhere near your level. Like comparing model T's to a F-22 Raptor. Great looking stuff.

As always, thanks for the kind words.

Tt build what? Im not understanding what your talking about, you need what? :? 8)

I'm sometimes inventive. Is that what you mean by building?
this is one of my latest brain storms. Jury rigged as all get out but... does exactly what I thought it would.
When my hides are soft, and I want to add color to them, they need to be sewn or glued or stapled shut into a tube and then smoke heavily applied from the inside. I dont like starting a fire on the ground and hanging a hide over it, because Im not quite as agile as I once was. This little portable smoker I made from an old mail box can be positioned at any height, keeps the smoldering punky wood contained.

I drilled holes around the base of the metal box.

How much the thigh high moccasins cost OR Why i started brain
Tanning hides.

Seriously rat,
The price brain tanned hides, good tanned hides, is shocking.lol
Told ya!
Each sm/med hide which are the tops. $120.00 each.
Around 50 for the elk for the bottoms
And a very very modest $100 for construction and beads
Crazy huh? Ive sold large mule deer hides for over 200 Elk 4 to 600.
I got the moc pattern from crazy crow.

Nonpc
I might have use for the blades and possibly jawbones.
But id be interested in dew claws and toes. Id like to put together
Some deer rib "paint brushes"and earth paint sets together for next yrs trade goods.
I dont know any hunters here and stop at every bone pile i see. So i might b interested in some ribs. Will post some photos of the rib bone brushes i have. Thanks. Msg
