osage orange is the real name. supposable keeps spiders out of the house in winter. commonly called monkey balls around here!

Didn't think it would take this long for an identification. Osage orange is correct.

Maclura pomifera is a small tree/large shrub that produces a distinctive fruit that is round, green, and bumpy. The fruit has many nicknames, including Osage orange, hedge apple, horse apple, monkey brain, and bois d'arc/bowdark.
