What's a Picket Pin?
Is it the pin you pull before tossing something in the picket line?

Sac Creek has is correct. A picket pin was and is used to tether an animal, usually a horse, instead of using hobbles. Horse should be where it was when you sacked out. With hobbles, you might need to look a bit to find your mount, but it won't be far.

I've actually used picket pins on high country elk hunts. They work well if you got a good sized meadow to picket your horse in.

I've used hobbles on horses too but I've had some horses that could still outrun me with hobbles on.
