Living poor means using what you have for fun and making life easier. This year I had to get another dog as the last one killed a bunch of fowl which nullified my agreement with him. I picked up this fellow in September[I think]

Well it turned out to be about the dumbest dog I've ever brought home but the wife likes him so shot he didn't get. She has him with her when she feeds her horse and other critters. Other day he grabbed the toboggan rope and pulled it so she came up with a cheap harness.

Which he had not chewed up by the time she came to show me.

Then she was off to see if he would haul feed and straw.

Sorry about the vid but she has a smart phone that is smarter than either of us.
So have fun doing what you do cheaply as being poor enough to borrow from a church mouse doesn't mean you have to be stagnant.

Looks like the pup is a natural at pulling. Now it is time to barter for a proper harness.

Just as I was reading your reply Swamp, the wife pulled in the yard with this in tow.

Now she is going out to the shop and I believe I may have to go find some new ratchet straps when she is done.
Nothing like a project the community takes an interest in as the harness came from an old girl whose dog was in a car accident and she ain't replacing him. Free is good. :D

Free is good and the harness looks like a good improvement. Can hardly wait to see it in use on the dog.

Well TT, if your tractor goes down while spraying this summer you can have the farm dog doing the pulling.

A useful dog? Im not familiar with that phrase.
Thats great !
If you ever decide to try different harnesses... I can recommend an old book called Wildwood Wisdom. ( bought my first copy back in the 70s on some planet I was on then. )
Along with hundreds of awesome information about living in the wilds and making life more comfortable.
There, are at least two, that I can remember, dog harnesses that are easily constructed. One made from just a large piece of leather, which might be a problem if rover gets hungry,, the other more complicated. I have been collecting old cotton webbing belts like use to be popular to make a harness from. I gather that padding across the chest is most important. :) but then you all know that.
Im going to show that photo to my dog. I have an American Bulldog, sort of a cross between a pit and a boxer, long and sleek.
And a chihuahua... yes... I never thought I'd have one either. Coyote bait I always thought. LOL. But she is an endearing little meercat sort of critter.
Thanks for the photos ! msg

I owned a Brittany Spaniel back in the 80's I used for hunting ruffed grouse. That stupid thing ripped into 2 porcupines. The dog was too dumb to remember lesson number 1....

Google
Pitbull with porcupine quills. Amazingly enough the dog lived
For a laugh...google. PITBULL ATTACKS BARBER SHOP. That would be funny no matter what color the victims are.
