We had a family b-day get together for my oldest son last night at the MiL's place. I came directly from work, which is located out in the country, taking the interstate beltway around my metro when I reached it.

Anyway, had to wait at the light at the end of the freeway off-ramp at the intersection of two arterial roads of the main city in the metro, although its sort of odd intersection because one of the roads ends there and people heading east either have to turn north or south onto the other one. All of the sudden, a little ducking (mallard or woodie probably) hops out of the taller grass of the highway right-of-way and beats cheeks (do ducks have "cheeks"??) kitty corner across the intersection heading to the west side of north-south road that is a residential neighborhood. I have no problem terminating a game critter during a season but I hate to watch stuff get road-killed. I'm rooting for this duckling to make it across at the same time waiting for it to get squished before my eyes. But the traffic just wasn't there on north-south road and the little sucker made it across, jumped the curb, and was gone into the lawns on the west side!!!

Just watch out for the cats little fella...

It's funny how the the anti's paint us as cold, heartless animal killers but I can guarantee 99% of us would go out of our way to help wildlife.
