How big a garden would it take to feed a family if there were no grocery stores ?

You don't need a garden to feed 4. Been watching Live Free Or Die Trying . I want to be like Thor and lose weight and have those tracking marks on my cheeks reminding me to look down when tracking. :--o

My Grandma had a garden about 1 acre, grew everything from fruit to veggies. She canned everything and we never went hungry. Meat was very seldom bought as my grandparents traded garden goods and odd jobs for a butchered cow or pig in the fall.
