I had a trapper tell me that he mixes coffee grounds with Peat Moss to cover the traps. He said that it really helps cover up the scent of the trap. I would think that coffee would be a scent that animals would not be used to, and scare them off. Has anyone heard of this.

I've never heard of that. Plus coffee does have a scent to it.

Drug dealers use coffee so the drug dogs can't smell their Coke, so hell it may work.

I thought drug dealers used coffe because police dogs smell coffee everyday. however animals see steel every day think about all the junk piles you trap around fox dont care about the smell of medal they on, in and around it every day, I got a spot I tye off to a old bumper and bed springs I take coon &fox and mink there every year. but if your traps are waxed they cant smell them anyhow. If you setout a starbucks lata and some biscata you might catch me

What ever worked for him or he thought worked for him is ok. But the truth is hiding trap scent by adding another scent which is not common does not render the problem for success. Clean traps and keeping things as close to normal will give better results. One stink smells as bad as the other, so adding two stinks will still create an awareness. Something trappers using leg holds don't want. As an attractor to bring into the site fine. But not to cover your traps.

I believe and will always believe the best thing to do is use the dirt from the site and nothing else. I have heard and read that using anthill dirt is great for bedding traps. Might work for some, but I never had much success with it. My brother used anthill dirt to bed his traps this year and had traps dug up left and right. He got rid of the anthill dirt and started making catches.

Try the mix and let us know how well it worked for you. I do agree about animals being less wary of smells they are used to. Down here we have tons of left over pipelines and oilfield equipment all over the woods plus all the beer cans thrown out by the litterbugs, so if the animals here feared the smell of metal, they would never find any food.
