... of a young lady who wanted nothing more than to understand her fathers love of the hills. So, in her attempt at trying she decided it was time to go with him on his adventures and embark on the many wonders that lay ahead. Unbeknownst to her there were many trials to be overcome. The first she noticed was the shear cold and bitter biting wind. "I can handle this." she muttered as she pulled her hooded sweatshirt over her head and shoved her gloved hands into her pocket pressing forward without any hesitation. As they walked the path of his routine they passed a few snares at which pointed out no new sign and only some fur of deer who had crawled under nearby areas. All the while keeping dad informed of which direction the deer were heading via their tracks, old and new. Further they trekked only to yield the second trial she would have to endure, the dreaded briars and burs. Without fear she fought the villainous briars and gave no thought to the burs as they clung to her like the stinch of a stinker. Finally, the place they wanted to be. A nice rest and to listen for the things to come. Hours passed and only the bark of many squirrels to keep them occupied. Decisions made, they head back home. Through the cold, the briars and many burs they walk, homeward bound for some much needed grub. "Ahh, pancakes and eggs." she grumbles.. Her last rial, patience. She realized not every outing ended with a kill. Time passes and bellies full we head out. This time to set up an old spot where we've seen some nice deer. Gloves on, hoodies up, rifles loaded and feet warm and dry we set out. Walking down the bottom talking about the bait we need for bobcats we were interrupted by the swift and loud snort. PHWOOT.. Quickly look to our right and running at full speed this antlered chum was barreling. Thankfully the heavy trees had been cleared out for burning in this area which left a good line of sight.. As dad readies his rifle he says "Scrub buck honey, you want it?".. Many hours logged with Big Game Hunter Pro Hunts she exclaims "Drop it, daddy!" Drawing the zoom in to 6x from 12x he leads and pulls the trigger.. The buck does a dead stop and tumbles in its tracks.. They look at each other and simultaneously say, "Spine shot!". The look on her face was priceless not to mention her steady tremors all over.. The lady was hooked.

Not by any means a bug guy but given the looks and feel from that youngin' biggest deer I had ever killed.

Moonsal, that may have been the most important buck you have taken to date! Little Moon will always remember that day, that kill, that buck above and beyond most any in the future. The big plus was she was with her Daddy, enduring to please him and prove she was the Trooper she felt he needed. A great story, thanks for sharing it and the picture. A very proud young lady, with a million dollar smile!

Been a minute but have been really busy.. Hunting and trapping and all that good stuff.. Thanks all and hope you're right Swamp. The time we spend out there is great and she seems to enjoy it most. Just hope it sticks! Girls will be girls after all hah She's had me going nonstop traking this buck I posted a bit ago. Ladies a trooper for sure and my my she loves being out in the woods. Drives her mom nuts to call and see if we got anything on the line as well as any new sign of some big racks..
