OK guys, I've been hunting for over 40 years. Spent thousands of nights in the woods coon hunting, and hundreds of nights predator calling.

Never, ever , saw a set of red eyes at night.

Until tonight.

My brother and I were calling, using a grey fox pup call. He shined the light and I saw a single red "eye ". We were on my grandmother's farm, so I figured our other brother had parked a four-wheeler or trasctor or something. Then there were 2 eyes, red as red can be. about the width of a yote or fox.

It disappeared before I got the gun up, so we kept calling, then saw them again about 30 feet away in some cedar brush. Red as L, but gone before I could scope it.

Never seen red eyes. What could it have been ? I have no idea.

No. Trappintime, I wasn't drunk.

Normally it is your rabbits and rodents that have red eyes. But your bigger cats and canines can also show red depending on their own genetic makeup, but it isn't real common. If it looked fox or yote sized it probably was one of the two. Some owls show red also, but what you described I doubt that was it. Or if you want to go into the more "mystical" it could be a chupicabra or a Bigfoot according to all the experts.

Any feral primates there abouts Doc? Some primates have red eye( similar to us in camera flashes). The trail cam pics of the feral primates in Florida started alot of "Bigfoot" rumors mistakenly. Theres a small population of spider/mini monkeys in Springfield here. Escaped pets from private owners and importers. Never say never ive learned. I cant recall ever seeing red eyes except gators in Florida swamps etc as a kid? No spore? Will dogs run it? Some dogs wont pursue primates? Dunno why?

Just because you weren't inebriated don't mean the critter wasn't. Probably got into your mash and had a glow on. Coulda been anything in my opinion. I don't shoot at eyes but rather between them so I ain't much help.

Thanks guys. I know rabbit eyes look orange sometimes, but these eyes were blood red, and too far apart for a rabbit. Couldn't see the body for the cedar brush.

Back, We have some lesser apes here , but they are classified as humans .    guess it could have been one of them trying to mess with us. Maybe it's a good thing I couldn't get a shot. :--?

Hey Doc, just a guess but what about a hog? I'm up north and we don't have feral pigs so I've never seen their eyes at night :?

Someone up here put a couple reflectors on a wire and wrapped em around a tree and set them up to look like a couple glowing eyes. They are about 20 feet off a back road in the forest and really light up at night when headlights hit em! First couple times they got me! Eventually some sourpuss took it down. I'll bet it spooked a few ppl, it was very creepy looking.

Doc, I'll call a coyote in every once in a while with a reddish tint to their eyes. I don't know why or what causes it.

  If beer did affect eyesight, I'd be frickin blind.    I bet my eyes would show up red in a spotlight many nights.

Sac, it could have been a yote. Good thing is, we can hunt them at night up to june, so I may get a shot yet.

Man I'd love to go but no way I could go for 2 weeks. Do you plan to do any hunting while you are there ?

Most of my family lives in Florida now so we may go there to hunt hogs. My niece said she can get us a few nuisance gator tags too. Her father n law has a small place in NW Florida that has a few hogs n deer. If we do get to go your welcome to go too.

I really appreciate the offer Back, but I'll have to pass this time. Good luck hunting if you do get to go.
