I think I'll call it wheels n deals

Sold a set of spring tooth harrows today for $75. Hardly had any interest in them, almost ended up selling for $30, but found another buyer  Also, have someone who wants to buy both my cultivators for $60, just gotta drop them off sometime on my way to work. Doing any wheeling and dealing out your way?

Who else?
I sold my cultivators today. Got $60 each, and I sold them after I went to the scrap yard and sold $145 worth of steel. All in all, I had a good day, and that was just what I did up until noon

I sold another piece of farm machinery today TT. Old Massey Ferguson Side mount hay rake. Only downside was, it was so junky the only buyer for it was the scrap yard  Thing thing was all rotted out and was good for nothing. Well, almost nothing, it was still good for 75/ton

Not really sure, as I had a bunch of other steel in the trailer with it. Plus, I don't think all the pieces were even there.

On another note, you should go out to a scrap yard some time, and see if you can just look through their steel pile, and buy some stuff from it. We bought a bunch of chain one time we were there. Some of it was so new, it had no rust on it at all

My father bought a lot of iron/steel from a scrap yard. He loved steel and I like wood. Me welding capabilities rival my ballroom dancing performances.

Theres lots more than just stuff for welding :p they're usually a good bit of machinery and stuff like that out in the piles.

trappintime- Good thing you don't scrap because you'd be almost crying what steel is going for nowadays. I took in a load (mind you that I scrap out of a 4-door sedan so I can't carry much for weight or handle bigger pieces) of light steel, they call it "tin" around here and got a penny a pound. That's about a 83% decline in 14 months. I'm about done playing with any steel now.

My copper is going into 5 gallon buckets to await "another day" although it hasn't dropped as bad as steel, I hate letting it go at the current price. It might buy gas come trapping season so I can lose money another way :--? At least trapping is more fun although I do enjoy tearing thins apart. Creative destruction

I was taking a little bit of random stuff in about a week ago. Had a cart with just a little tin on the scale. Some random guy walks in asked the worker if he could add some to my pile. Guy said sure. So
he adds about 100 pounds of tin to the cart. That works for me lol

I left the scrap yard with close to $300 yesterday, even after the yard ripped me off for 30 pounds of #2 insulated (I don't even want to talk about it yet) Shred was down to 30/ton, but the yard is clean (almost)

It appears that not only metal can be scrapped. I put an ad on a forum up here for live turkeys to be butchered for Christmas. Had three guys contact me wanting the wing feathers for arrow fletching. I asked each what they were willing to pay and 1 said 50 cents a feather   . I took the ad down as I can butcher the birds and sell the feathers which will net me at least the price of two more birds. :D

Definitely paying better than metals right now  Luckily I'm still selling stuff on kijiji for more than scrap :) sold a ski boose for $40 snowblower for $20 and selling some hay rake wheels for $10 a piece hopefully this week

tt- Sounds like you have those arrow guys over a barrel if they're buying locally! I usually get between $10-15 for a set of wild turkey wing feathers (over 30). Then again, when you Northerners buy on ebay from us here in the States, the postage/shipping companies rip you off another 30% so maybe my turkey wing feathers would be the same price or more for your customers...

PC, I never even offered to sell the feathers. These guys asked for them because of the fact I have live birds. I never even thought of anything else on a bird besides meat being worth anything  . Makes me cry to think of the tons of money I left out for mice, birds and whatever to use for free.

LHB, I just sold the second last tractor I bought and was very happy to get out from under it without losing more than $20. The guy who sold it to me was a better liar than me  . I hate it when that happens.

That means its time to buy another new one though, right?

I sold 3 hay rake wheels off of an old massey fergusson to a real nice old farmer. He came over 100 miles to get them. Left his wife shopping in town and drove out to my place to buy them. Sold them for $10 a piece, and I helped him take the teeth off to fit in his van better, so he gave me another $10 for that, even though I didn't want it

It's Christmas time. I was bored at 2am so was cruising a buy/sell site when I found a guy looking for old rusty traps for a man cave. I had some pics of some I had that ain't legal here anymore and most are weak to boot. I sent him an email saying I wanted $25 a piece with the pictures. Plick calls me at 6am and says, "How much for 20 of them?". I said multiply 20 by 25 and what do you get? He says, "Sold" .
Unbelievable what sells for bucks when so many are having a hard time feeding their family's right now. Daughter is taking them up to Lloyd where he will pick them up and I will take the money and run.

tt- You drive a mean bargain!! I would have at least cut the guy some slack for buying so many!

Don't know if you ever go over onto the Scrap Metal Forum but you may enjoy my "adventure" I had with an industrial 10 gallon coffee maker. The sucker made me work!!

Doc these were old double long spring, jump and 1 square trap that cost me three coyotes and never held any. I have to use either soft catch or offset for coyotes and the old girls just didn't have the meat on them for further use. I coulda used them for beaver on drowning sets but I ain't got enough beaver or the desire to even catch one anymore. If I'm asked to remove beaver from some of my cattlemens dugouts or along the crick I either shoot or set coni's[hate them damb 330's. I kept all the desirable ones for myself as I ain't that dumb. I can replace the 20 for less than $5 each with time and perseverance. I suppose I like the dealing better than most anything. If I'd of been born 150 years ago I'd been a horse trader for sure. Old Haney on Green Acres was my hero and I've led my life along a lot of what he did on the show. You gotta remember that most people a person deals with you only get to screw one time so make it memorable. My father had a buddy when I grew up who always said, "If'n I can screw a million people outta a buck I'll be a millionaire". He succeeded.
