Bear season opens on April 15th and the snow is melting early.

Pipepusher headed up to the site today.

These thing were all over one hillside. They are like ladybugs.

This is below the approach log. You can see the remnants of a brush blind I built for the bears. Repair work was started today on that.

I'm getting excited about the 2013 hunt of yours Pipepusher. The video was interesting...just a little too short. We have some bugs like that during the fall and if you squash them they stink pretty bad (no, they are not the typical "stink bugs"). Maybe Jase will do some research and let us know what they actually are.

Thanks Swamp,
Pipepusher snuck up the mountain today. Did a little more bear approach cover work, on the downhill side of the approach log. HaHa
Did somebody say.?.."If you build it, they will come"
Also freshened up the 6 foot markers.

1 step at a time. :D

Will you be putting up trailcams in this area? If and when are you allowed to start baiting?

Post subject:  Re: Pipepusher Spring Bear 2013

I put one trail cam up yesterday. With the early spring, it will be interesting to see if any come in early, by memory. The baiting can start on the 15th.

Davy, when do you go to bear camp?

The week of Memorial Day, I'm getting pumped!

Those bugs are Asian beetles, that's at least what the call the around here. They are an invasive species. Look like orange lady bugs but they stink and they bite. We had a few years where they were just everywhere.

Ever use sow in heat? Thinking about trying some, have to admit though I'm a little apprehensive about using it, lol! Where we hunt, the week we are there is usually about when the big boys just start to look for some love so I thinking it may be worth a go towards the end of the week.

Post subject:  Re: Pipepusher Spring Bear 2013

I am getting exited too, Swamp. We can take 1 in the Spring and 1 in the Fall, in selected areas.
Memorial Day is just 30 days away, davy. :--D and yes, I have used sow in heat once  last spring.
Thanks doc, that means a lot coming from you. Are you running now? When is your season?
You guys are right about those beetles. They stink when crushed and they bite! At 1st I was amazed, then disgusted standing in them.
Jase , no offense taken with your jocular language. :?

Some new arrows were acquired. They are much more consistent. Now it is all up me, no blaming equipment.

Nice! Looks like some Beman ICS Bowhunters?

Yeah I want to try some sow in heat but I don't want to handle it a lot. If I do I'll pull some in a dripper went baiting and just leave it alone until we leave. Don't want a love sick bear thinking I'm available, lol!

davy , I would be real cautious about introducing new scents to an established bait site. Unless it has been unproductive. (
or is in a sow range, or has a big one lurking late. Even then, it should be given a couple days. It is a big chess game. )
Enjoy...and keep shooting.

Well pipepusher was in training today.
( to be in the rain all day ) here it is!!!! the weather that
us snow line watchers , pray for when we are snowed in!
Then when the snow is gone ... don't!

And, .. the cam is set to high!

Does your trailcam have a video feature? If so, that could make for some interesting viewing. Best of luck on getting all set up and getting a big bear.

Oh ya!
Snow is gone. 1st I remember. but that aint workin real well.
Pipe worked on the ground blind yesterday and put 2 more cam boxes out. The forecast is for freezing temps. and rain on opening day. ( that will be fun, packin in a 55 gal. barrel with bait to fill it) ( not to mention , all being done up on wet logs 8 feet off the ground) A new plan is to get a cam on there approach. Not so much to set a stand but see how they stage up before coming in. Lots of work... no pics.
Sue me.

By special request the cam there now is set on vid!!

I have been waking up early these past few days, wolf. ( smarty pants )
There is still lots to do. After a 1/2 day at work , I will try an sneak back out and bring the plastic yard chair with the 2 back legs cut off 4 " and get it set in the blind. The blind needs some brushing in work as well as the approach log and another camera put out. :D
