Im looking at putting a transom mounted trolling motor on my 14ft jon boat. Not sure how much thrust is needed. I could always save up and get the 55lb or if a 40lb works great get that. What does everyone else use. I know its not going to get up on plan like a gas engine. Just want something easy and reliable for a 1mile journey.

A good marine deep cycle battery will cost more than the motor. http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sugexp=les ... 86&bih=803 is my favorite.

Thanks for the info. I I got a starcraft jon. I think I'll look at the 40lbs motors. Like i said I'm not looking to ski behind it, just move quicker than rowing. Thanks again.
