How personal are the PMs we send off public view?
I was pm-ing someone, and when I posted the message, the word bonehead was included in a sentence about myself, I don't use that word. So I went back to edit to see if I had indeed used the word bonehead and I hadn't. but on the letter I posted and sent, the word bonehead is there. :--? :--?
So exactly how personal are personal messages. Are you moderators privy to PMs? Or have I entered the
WAT twilight zone?

Upon further examination of said letter, I see that rather than the word I wanted to use, which was S**t. an apology in parenthesis says something about my language and refers to myself as a bonehead. So do you moderators peruse the PMs and censor?
That's creepy, if so, Maybe the term should be Semi Private Message.

I'm a computer idiot, but I think there is some kind of program that automatically filters out foul language, and replaces it with the " I'm an idiot " thingy.   So I don't think the mods are reading your PM's, but I would bet that a lot of other people are reading them, if you get my drift.   Nothing on the net is private.

Yes Moderators are "privy" to PMs....BUT....just the ONES THEY SEND and RECEIVE. Doc is correct (you have no idea how I hate putting that statement in print) it is an automatic filter on certain words, especially the ones discouraged in being used here by TrapperKD.

Ok I see and it is a very good idea for posts open to the general public. Especially when our younger enthusiasts will be reading our posts and also older people who are offended by four letter words
Sorry Im such a bonehead !

There is a profanity filter that replaces certain words with sayings that I have made up  . So if I use the words (Please excuse my language, I'm an idiot) or (Please excuse my language, I'm a bonehead) they are automatically filtered and replaced. This goes for anything posted anywhere on the site, including PM's. And just so you know, the only people that can read PM's are the sender and the recipient. The Administrators and Moderators do not have access to them.

But yes, at the moment there is only one Administrator.

So it was a typo.

Well, it was not a typo because I meant to say "Administrators" in that sentence. A typo would have been, for example, if I would have spelled it "Afministrators". There was a generalization in that particular pronouncement which was intended to convey the explicitness of a PM's particular privacy properties. Privy? :?
