Well, I'm almost done putting up all my coons for the Feb. auction, and I've been hearing some outstanding prices going form the country buyers for GREEN animals!! A local one around me gave 26$ for the biggest coon, and I've heard rumors of rats selling for the 10-12$ average range.
This is looking like its going to be a BIG sale this year!!! :--D :D :--D
So I was just wondering what everyone else thought about the next sale, or the current prices from country buyers, or just fur opinions in general! :)

Don't count on the coons being a high dollar item. That $26 was for the biggest and probably best coon. Look at the averages, not the highs. Coons may surpise me, and I hope they do because we ourselves got several, but realistically, I highly doubt they do all that great. Are they going to tank, I highly doubt it, but I don't personally expect it to be a banner sale for them either. I am seeing some optimism in the prices country buyers are offering people on coons, seems like it is somewhere around the $15 range across the nation. They may be being a little too optimistic here. Last May-June auction, NAFA averaged somewhere around $15 on coons overall. They are saying that overall, this years Feb. auction will be comparable to last May-Junes. If it does, there are alot of country buyers going to lose their hind ends on the coons. I think a few of the country buyers are being too optimistic with rats too. I do believe they are probably going to reach record averages, however, I don't think it will be as high as what everyone is thinking it could be. Bottom line is, there is a shortage this year, and China loves rats, so the prices are going to increase some. But don't forget, the Chinese are shrewd business people, so they aren't going to let it get out of hand.

What the crap is this? All year long they have been saying to not trap coons, to go for something else. Now as of yesterday they publish an article that says coons are in high demand and should see increasing prices  Keep in mind though they did the same thing for beaver and yotes and prices didn't do what they said they were expecting. Who knows.

hell those grinners in every ones shed should be worth 20 and going by that logic some boys would be millionaires for as many as they take.

I might have to go calling after some coons in what spare time I have from cat trapping. They are getting ready to lay up on us. Going to be getting an extended period of cold. Don't know if that will happen before the last receiving date for the Feb. auction though.

The NAFA guy is doing the fur pick up locally on December 29. I have a short window to rack up some more fur.

I heard yesterday that a local fur buyer was talking $50 and down on bobcats and otter...no mention of the other furs. It is always the "down" part that concerns me......

Ya early on it was crazy trying to keep up getting things fleshed and boared and giving everything time to dry but then the snow came and burried us then things slowed to a crawl i still have a few coons on boards and a couple yotes and a fox on boards drying but everything i have caught as of today will be ready for the sale. Why what are you think Jase? That this sale isnt gonna go well and to hold on to some stuff ?
