Our business of that of brain tanning deer and elk and we have a beam suitable for that, it's long and slanted so that the wet hair epidermis and flesh falls away from where we stand. We also have another beam that is shorter and higher for fleshing smaller critters. Our intention when we first started trapping beaver, was to brain tan them, and while some people do just that, $$$ was a factor and we could get more for a brain tanned deer and elk hide than a brain tanned beaver. I already mentioned that Im definately not a clean skinner of beaver, so fleshing it on a beam seemed the only way, the only problem was the hide of a beaver is thin and delicate and I tended to slice the hide when trying to flesh it on a beam. So nix that. We started selling our beaver in the round at that point, not messing with the skinning at all, then beaver prices dropped so low that it was hardly worth the 240 mile round trip to the fur buyer. After that we just trapped beaver for the rawhide pelt. Anyway, I came up with the idea of using joist hangers to move the beam to different places so I could use that small beam depending on the weather. Hot and sunny, I'd move it into the shade, cool and breezy I'd move it into the sun, and nasty and rainy or snowy, I'd move it to indoors our hide shed. Just a suggestion.
