Being from the south (and older) I have heard all sorts of such things over the years, especially as a youth in rural east Texas. One that I don't remember how it goes was about seeing vultures (we call buzzards) circling in the sky---here is one rendition, but not the same as I heard as a youth:

1) you have sorow
2) you will have joy
3) you will receive a letter
4) you will meet a boy
5) there will be hate
6) there will be pain

Like I said, this is not the way I remember it being said...but I do not remember how I heard it....plus we generally see a lot more than 6 in the sky at once.

If you have some particular old tales like "wind from the east, the fish bite the least" and so on, feel free to share them.

How many foggy mornings you have in August will be the number of snows the following winter.

If it rains the first day of the month, it will rain on 15 days that month.

The first day in Feburary it thunders, it will frost that day in April.

A January fog freezes a February dog.

90 days after you hear the first locust of the year it will frost.

90 days after a foggy day you will have a rainy day.

Rain in May, makes prairie hay.

If you have a wart, and stumble across an old stump full of stump water, wash the wart and it will go away . ( You can't go looking for a stump, you have to come up on it by chance ).

When I was young, my Dad was friends with a man named Harvey Moyers, God rest his soul. He was the nicest person on earth. Harvey used to "buy" warts. If you had a wart, he would give you a penny or a nickel, can't remember which, and in a week it would be gone.

Or:
Worthless as hen $hit on a pump handle.
Longer than a well rope.
Handier than a pocket on a t-shirt.

this saying "red in morning sailors take warning" I have found to be true when fishing the gulf of Mexico.

If the cows are laying down dont bother going trout fishing

If Bees/Hornets build their hives high in a tree expect alot of snow, low to the ground would mean little snow

Corn must be knee high by the 4th of July

The time to plant corn is when the pin oak leaves are the size of a fox squirrel's ear.
