Red Rooster on the "401k" post said something about trading in his for a 457. Well, I thought he was kidding around and talking about some big new pistol. He really wasn't. Anyway, I was looking around for a "457 pistol" and found this thing that turned out to be a big bore air pistol (ballastics about the same as .45 ACP).

I was looking around more tonight and found out there was a whole shooting culture of big bore air guns (perhaps some of you guys are already involved in the action). Came across this video. Quite the long pole but it put the old pig down. I wonder how much boar taint those big ole swinging nads give the bacon that comes from the beast?? Long ago I worked with a fry cook that always claimed he could smell the difference in bacon frying that came from a boar.

i have seen lots of big game animals taken with them on youtube.....it it just kinda hard for me to spend that kinda money on a air gun lol.....even the PCP rifles are hard for me think about buying.....i bought a break barrel .22 and it works great on smaller critter and it fun to shot in the back yard as well

I believe your fry cook friend was correct about the smell of boar meat cooking. It isn't a constant but it is common. All boars do not smell strong but some certainly do and it will remain with the meat. The old wives tale of immediately removing the nads hasn't worked for the ones I have killed.

I haven't gotten into the bigger bored air rifles yet, but I hope to. I have a .22 spring piston air rifle right now. It's amazing what that thing will do. One day I decided to try my hand at shooting 100 yards with it. It wasn't accurate by any means because I didn't have a scope to match that distance, but I was landing on the target and hitting it pretty hard. I have taken squirrels out to 45 yards with it, and it knocks them cold. Air rifles are very accurate if you shoot them properly. I don't know the full extent of the prices with the bigger bore air rifles, but the smaller bores are quite a bit cheaper to shoot compared to a .22 long rifle, and they are much more quiet.
